This design is inspired by the Norwegian fairytale Reveenka (literary: “The Fox’s Widow”). When the husband of the vixen dies, four different suitors are knocking on her door: A bear, a wolf, a hare and finally the chosen one: a fox. The vixen’s maid is a cat called Korse.

In 1962, the Norwegian film director Ivo Caprino made a very charming puppet film about Reveenka (weblink) and this gave new life to the old story.

The German collection by the Grimm Brothers includes two similar versions of this fairytale, both called “The Wedding of Mrs Fox” (Die Hochzeit der Frau Füchsin).

The pattern has 3 different charts:
1) Reveenka: Size woman small/large.

2) Haren og reven (The Hare and the Fox):

3) Bjørnen og ulven (The Bear and the Wolf):
Size man, large. With the two larger suitors.
