These mittens have one layer with roving knit in and one layer plain. This makes them reversible and keeps the thrums from getting caught between your fingers or on your rings. As you wear them, the insulating thrum layer will felt down. We’ve written this pattern in a size that will fit most women. If you want to make children’s or men’s sizes, add or subtract stitches in multiples of 4.

You will begin with the lining, then you will knit the thrummed layer, and finally you will knit the cuff which connects the two layers.

This pattern contains written instructions as well as a series of detailed photographs which show how to knit with thrums.

Note: The overall puffiness of your final mitten will depend on how puffy your individual thrums are, and how many you put in. If you want a less puffy mitten, use thinner thrums and/or place them farther apart.
