This pattern is for either DK yarn or a heavy fingering weight yarn, each with a different cast-on number.

Choose either a dk/sport yarn for a large size or fingering weight yarn for the smaller size. The cast-on numbers are different for the two sizes. The general scheme is also given for knitters who would like to make a custom version.

Please ask the designer any questions in the Sophieknitting Knit-A-Long group or join in the self-paced KAL.

Description:
Feminine and light, a variation of the Turkish Stitch creates an open airy fabric that has a direction of either left or right leaning columns of stitches and otherwise is totally reversible. Simple repeating motifs are found in many Turkish crafts; this textural cowl design evokes the geometric designs painted on tiles or woven into carpets. The color turquoise continues the Turkish connection, though many vibrant happy colors are also used in Turkish handcrafts. Soothing natural colors compliment the serenity of the simple design. Two versions are available here. The long version uses sport weight yarn, the shorter version uses fingering weight yarn. A custom size is also possible. Choose a yarn and enjoy the carefree-styling of a reversible knit.

Yarn Qualities:
A luxury yarn that has some shine and depth of color makes the most of the twisted texture in the body of the cowl. Silk/wool blends create sumptuous cowls. Using either a sport or a light DK weight yarn gives more warmth. The larger cowl is more appropriate for wearing with a winter coat. The smaller light weight version is more decorative and comfortable worn indoors to ward off chills. Both choices are appropriate as Fall through Winter accessories. For an all-season version consider a cotton blend for a lighter and loftier version of cotton.

380-400 yards of fingering weight yarn
300-350 of sport weight yarn or lighter DK weight yarn
worsted weight yarn not recommended to maintain airy lightness
