Some designs take awhile to come to be. I loved the idea of this hat, with its combination of garter rib and cables, but my early prototypes just weren’t right. I put the idea aside, worked on other things, always planning to get back to it but never actually doing it.

One weekend, my friend Rhonnie came to visit. A fellow knitter, she spotted an earlier version in a pile of WIPs. She immediately wanted to know what pattern it was and was disappointed to find out that it didn’t exist yet and had been in progress for well over a year. Her enthusiasm encouraged me to return to this pattern, and so it is named for her.
