Thick and warm, stretchy, elegantly simple: the Ribbed Capelet is knit in the round from the neck down in a graduated-size ribbing, giving it a body-hugging silhouette. The larger size can fit a 2X comfortably; the smaller size is terrific on gamine figures.

This capelet is tailored and looks good on a variety of figures, and it is comfortable to wear. It can be worn high on the neck like a cowl, or can be pulled down over the shoulders into a boat neckline.

It can also be belted and worn as a short skirt over tights or jeans.

Yarns with some mohair content work best as they add a wonderful sponginess and bulk. Any comparable super bulky yarn, or a worsted yarn held doubled, can be used.

A size 15 24” circular needle is required. For the L/XL, stitches may be moved to a 30” circular after the second increase.

This is an easy knit and can easily be completed in a weekend.

Note: sadly, Gusto 10 is no longer available. I designed this capelet four years ago and have worn the sample shown in the acid citron green color for several winters. It does not show any wear and tear like some bulky single-ply yarns that pill right away (Reynolds Blizzard for example). But I am happy to say that the sample recently worked from the Iona, even though it is a plied yarn, had the essential feel of the Gusto without all the weight. It would be tempting to work this in Misti Alpaca!

Photo with the sample in the Iona will be added shortly (this worsted weight yarn was held double and so required twice the yardage).
