River cane is a plant native to the Southeast USA often used in basket weaving. In some American Indian cultures, it was also used for fishing poles, chairs, pipe stems, and for shining clay pots. Like the plant, this asymmetrical shawl has defined stalks leading up to a spiky frond (picot edging), which softens the lines and provides a lovely additional texture.

The pattern was designed for the first Anniversary of “The Fibre Studio at Yarns to Dye For” at their new location and also to celebrate the Knit in Public Day on June 18th 2016.

The size of the shawl will depend on your yardage and needle size. The shawl shown in the picture measures 63” x 29” (160cm x 74 cm) and is knit with one skein in colorway “Old Glory.”

Additional material:
larger skein for larger shawl
sewing needle
blocking wires if available
