This collection of cowls was designed to mark Ontario’s Family Day holiday on February 15, 2021. In five sizes, you’re sure to find one to fit every member of your family. The cowls are knit in the round in a reversible cable pattern worked over a k1, p1 rib. Leave it unblocked for a snug fit, or block it out for a more relaxed vibe. Designed to be long enough to pull up over your nose on a cold day, you can knit fewer repeats if you prefer a shorter neckwarmer. Or buy extra yarn and knit it longer so you can pull the cowl up over your head like a hood.

The project is a collaboration with Riverside Yarns in Owen Sound, Ontario, and the store will be hosting a virtual knitalong beginning on January 21. Follow the thread on their Ravelry Group, and email josette@riversideyarns.ca for information about Thursday evening Zoom meetings. The designer will be available for live support during online KAL meetings, along with the store owners, and a supportive group of local knitters.

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate

Abbreviations and Special Techniques used in Project:
c4brib = cable 4 back in rib: slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold to back of work; k1, p1 from left-hand needle; k1, p1 from cable needle
c4frib = cable 4 front in rib: slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold to front of work; k1, p1 from left-hand needle; k1, p1 from cable needle
k = knit
p = purl
rnd(s) = round(s)
st(s) = stitch(es)
A note on casting on and binding off - a multiple step tubular cast-on and matching bind-off can be used, but the more straightforward alternating cable cast-on and invisible ribbed bind-off (a sewn bind-off) were used in the samples to fine effect.
