YARN: 7 skeins of Expression Fiber Arts Dewy DK yarn (4 oz/250 yds per skein), in colorway: Rooted. If that color isn’t available, any shades from this category will work.

NEEDLES: US Size 7 (4.5 mm) needles, straight or circular, plus a 16” circular in the same size to work the neck.

Notes From the Designer:

•A cozy poncho is great for those early fall mornings as the weather turns brisk. A textured body and folded collar add some extra panache and keep you snuggly when the wind picks up, but the body is left open at the sides so you don’t overheat if the temperature changes quickly.
•Knit in two pieces and seamed at the shoulders, with stitches picked up and worked in the round for the collar, this is a great project for advanced beginner and intermediate knitters.
•Poncho works up fairly quickly in DK weight yarn, and the stitch pattern is easy to remember. Length is easily adjustable; just keep knitting to your desired length before beginning the neck shaping.
•This piece was inspired by early morning walks in the woods and along the river in the fall and winter seasons. I generally prefer the solitude of cold mornings to walks in the warmer seasons when everyone wants to enjoy the great outdoors. I like the crispness of the air as it bites at my face, but I like the rest of me to stay warm, so this poncho is exactly the piece I would want to take with me. There’s a maintained trail that runs by the river in my town known as the Riverwalk Trail, where folks like to walk, jog, and occasionally hug trees (myself included). I named this piece after that trail, where I have been known to wander on a cool fall morning, lost in thought, possibly knitting socks along the way…

Note: Pattern is written for a short poncho of 20” in length. Sample shown as a long poncho of approximately 30” length. Length is easily modified; just keep knitting to desired length!
