This top is made using fine self-striping cotton with long runs of colours, but I am quite sure it will look lovely in solid colours too.

It is made of motirs that are joined as you go to form the top with a boat neck, and small motifs that fill out the space between the larger ones.

Motifs are of a slightly unusual construction, but there is a detailed photo tutorial (separate file).

The pattern is written for size M, but there are some tips on how to achieve different sizes by using different number of motifs or using gauge or a different weight of yarn. Both of the recommended yarns are discontinued, so a substitute yarn has been added.

The motif size is 13 cm/5.1in.
