Clarification (not errata) for patterns purchased before 11/18/10:
Yes you are knitting onto the flap you just creating by casting on 20 sts. I have been told that it is easier to use a third needle like a dpn or a straight needle at this point. Rephrasing of row 2 of brim as follows: W/yf, sl p.wise, yb, k19, turn work (you should have worked a total of 20 sts). Repeat rows 1-2 until only 20 sts remain.
Finished Measurements:
Circumference: 21 1⁄2”
Length: 11 1⁄2”
Materials:
Size 8 U.S. (5 mm) double point needles
Size 8 U.S. (5 mm) 16” circular needles
Size 7 U.S. (4.5 mm) 16” circular needles
One locking stitch marker
Four buttons 3⁄4” in diameter
Sewing needle and matching thread
Yarn:
2 skeins of Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran (85% merino wool, 10% silk, 5% cashmere, 104 yards), shown in 119.
Approximately 175 of an aran weight yarn will work.
