This design is a remix of the triangle shawl, Robin in the Leaves, and was inspired by revisiting one of my favourite childhood books while reading it with my own children.

The edging uses a stitch pattern by Naomi Parkhurst of Gannet Designs, who has cleverly encoded the word ‘Rain’ into the lace, which seems rather fitting for an English landscape.

The size of the shawl is adaptable, both the texture stitch and the lace sections can be worked to any size. The line of catkins is optional, and can also be repeated multiple times.

The design can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with some notes.

Pattern rows are worked on the right side only.

The second colour used in the catkins is only stranded on one row, and carried up through later rows by slipping stitches.

Suits fingering weight yarn in any yardage between approx 300m and 900m.
