Fun to knit and stylish to wear cape/shawl is knit in sideways garter stitch wedges. The front bands are worked in garter stitch; stitches are picked up and garter stitch wedges with lace edging are worked in short rows. The left and right halves are joined at center back. Stitches are picked up around the neck, then the hood is worked in garter stitch. Instructions are clear, written out and charted. Choosing some fabulous buttons will make this project a stand out.

Size is about 60” across (wrist to wrist). Look for yarn that is approx. 105-110 yards per 50 grams rather than go by the labels i.e. DK, Worsted, Sport, etc.

To make it smaller use a lighter weight yarn, to make it larger use a heavier weight yarn.

To make it wider in the pattern weight yarn add stitches to the wedges to make it a bit longer or subtract stitches to make it a bit shorter.

The cape/shawl is worked in garter stitch which is really stretchy. The sample was blocked 65” and measures a bit over 60” after blocking pins were released.

The hood could be eliminated by substituting an i-cord bind off.

If substituting yarn be careful to keep the neck to about 8” in diameter for an adult sized cape. If the neck is too big add a couple decreasing rows to bring it in.

It would also look great without the lace pattern, just use plain garter for that section.

The two stitch buttonhole should accommodate a button of up to 1” in width; for a wider button use a 3 stitch buttonhole.
