After I purchased this special skein of locally sourced/dyed wool, I quickly realized that its rustic nature reminded me a lot of a handspun yarn.

Bold cabled patterns showcase this aran weight yarn at its best. The cables go fast and keep your interest throughout. Functional buttons keep the cuff closed once you put the mitts on.

This is an advanced beginner / intermediate pattern. You need to be able to work basic cables, increase while working in pattern, pick up stitches and work in the round.

Women’s size M/L - approx 7” / 18 cm hand circumference, slightly stretched & 7 ½” / 19 cm long

Yarn
Fern Fiber Rosabelle the Romney - 100% wool, dyed with Elderberry/Alkanet; 131 yds / 143 m per 105 g / 3.5 oz; 1 skein or approx 100 yds / 95 m of an aran weight yarn

Needles
Size US 6 / 4.25 mm, 32” circular (or preferred method for working small circumferences in the round) - or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge
20 sts + 28 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch
22 sts + 28 rows = 4” / 10 cm in Lattice cable pattern

Notions
tapestry needle, six (6) ½” buttons, cable needle, six (6) stitch markers

Pattern Notes
Mitts are knitting beginning with the cuff. Once cuff is complete, it is tacked together and stitches are picked up and worked in the round for the hand. Thumb gusset is worked at the same time as the hand. Lastly, thumb is worked and buttons are sewn on to close cuff.
