When I decided to knit a pair of heel out socks, I couldn’t pick a pattern. So I set out to wing it and design my own on the fly. Here is the result.

Stitch counts are given for 3 sizes - small, medium and large. Foot and leg length are easily customized.

There are larger than normal numbers of stitches so using long circular needles are best. It’s not an ideal pattern for DPN’s

Using self striping yarn is ideal as it will show the interesting shaping off.

I’ve chosen to use 2.5mm needles because the cables in the patterning do take a bit of the stretch out of the fabric. If you’re naturally a tight knitter, consider going up a needle size.
