Roinn (‘reen/rine/rin’ depending on dialect, meaning to divide or separate in Irish) is a super simple introduction to cutting and reinforcing steeks. Roinn consists mistake rib borders, and a geometric stranded colourwork motif of horizontal lines, worked in the round. The colourwork motif is charted only. The steek is reinforced using the crochet method, and cut. Button bands are worked flat, and steek edges are finished by sewing into place.

The colourwork motif is charted.

Pattern purchase includes a separate photo tutorial to guide you through crochet reinforcement, cutting a steek, and picking up stitches for button bands.

Size (at gauge given, when open): 79 x 26 cm / 31 x 10 inches.

Yarn
Aran weight yarn in the following quantities: MC 170m / 186 yds. CC 80m / 87 yds.
Sample uses Studio Donegal’s Donegal Wool Spinning Company (100% wool, 200 m / 218 yds per 100g) in the following shades:
MC 3637 Teal, 1 skein.
CC 3750 Grey, 1 skein.

This yarn is a woollen spun, two-ply yarn, with a woolly texture, that blooms beautifully on washing, and grips on to itself, perfect for cutting steeks.

Needles
4 mm and 5.5 mm circular, or sizes needed to achieve gauge, in both ribbing and colourwork, 60 cm / 24 inches long.

Gauge
18 sts and 28 rounds on smaller needles / 4 inches in mistake ribbing.
18 sts and 20 rounds on larger needles in stranded colourwork pattern.
