This pattern contains both the knitting instructions and the instructions to naturally dye your completed shawl in the ecoprint method.

Please see the list of dye supplies below that are requited to dye your shawl- this is a method of dyeing for adults as you will be using an iron mordant.

The iron mordant will darken the yarn (And make it a little rust colored too), and when you do the ecoprinting the rust colour lightens and makes it more of the colour you see in the photos! The yarn I started with was cream in colour.

Abundant Earth Terra Sport
100% Domestic Merino
360y/329m- 100g

Needles:
3.75mm 32” or longer circular needles

Notions:
4 place markers and a darning needle

Size:
Unblocked- wingspan 35”/ spine 17”
Blocked- wingspan 53”/ spine 20”

Supplies needed for dyeing:

-A completed shawl made from protein fibre
(wool, silk, alpaca etc.)
-Ferrous Sulfate (iron) -4g per 100g shawl
-Rose Leaves- a few big handfuls
-Orvus paste for scouring
-String
-A 1” diameter stick that is
between 8-12” in length
-A stainless steel dyepot with lid
(at least 10” deep)
-A heat source (stovetop or burner)
-A well ventilated working space
-A digital kitchen scale
-Rubber gloves
-A dust mask
-A thermometer
-A stainless steel spoon
-A bowl that will hold the shawl
