Rose Illusion Cushion
This pattern was free for the duration of the Woolsack project. Since September 2012 the pattern is no longer free.
The notes below are the original notes.
This Rose Illusion is one of four national emblem cushions I have designed for the Woolsack project, which is part of the Cultural Olympiad for 2012. The others are:
The idea behind the project is to make a cushion for every competitor in the Olympics and Paralympics. All cushions are to be made in British wool and stuffed with British wool. All wool for stuffing has been donated to the project and there are several ‘stuffing events’ taking place prior to the Olympics.
Cushions can be made by anyone, anywhere in the world, but the wool must be from British sheep. All the rules are explained on the Woolsack web site.
When you look straight at an illusion knit you see only stripes. The picture appears when you look from an angle.
The patterns will be available until the knitting part of the project ends on March 31, 2012.
March 29: Deadlines for cushions have been extended so patterns will now be free until May 31.
Note: The Tudor Rose was traditionally used as the English emblem but a more natural looking rose has become popular in recent years.
