The Rose Petal mittens pattern is for traditional-style mittens knitted in the round from the wrist up. The cuff is worked in a 1x1 corrugated rib, in which both the knit and the purl stitches change colour. This is followed by the stranded colourwork section. The thumb gusset starts at the base of the palm, and once the thumb gusset is wide enough, the thumb opening is positioned by using waste yarn. After the rest of the mitten is complete, the waste yarn is removed, and the thumb is then finished.
