Canada’s west coast is a wild and rugged place. Winter
gales give way to a brief summer, and the rocky landscape
has little arable land. Desolation Sound is aptly named;
winters out there would have been desolate and lonely.
European loggers and fishermen who settled this remote
coast brought pieces of their homeland with them and
carved gardens from the forests to plant apples and roses.
These foreign seeds were coaxed to flower and fruit among
the moss, ferns and native berries of the rain coast. Many
of the remote homesteads have been abandoned and
reclaimed by the wild, but in a forgotten garden you may
still find a hardy rose entwined around an arbutus tree, or
sprawling untended in a sunny glade.

sizing
approximately 60” across by 30” long. The pattern is
written for a lace-weight yarn, the shawl can be knit in heavier
weight yarns (with larger needles to correspond). You may also
work more pattern repeats to create a larger finished shawl. Please note that the lace pattern itself looks best if it is knit at a fairly tight gauge (as far as lace goes).*

Yarn: 800 yds lace weight yarn

Gauge: 24 sts / 4” in stockinette stitch
Needles: US #4 / 3.5 mm (or as required to meet gauge)
32”+ circular needles
