Worked with a deeply textured combination of cabled Adventure cables the crossed columns of twisted stitches create a very sculptural mitten. Each lozenge shaped cable pattern opens to reveal an additional traditional cable in the center, and the columns of twisted stitches on the side continue through the decreases to frame the whole mitten.

For these mittens I wanted to work with two kinds of cables to really show the differences between regular cables worked with stockinette, and adventure cables with moving sections of cables. Since the adventure cables cross the stitches within the stitch pattern and cross the stitch pattern stitches over the mitten they sit higher up from the base mitten fabric creating a deep level of texture. They remind me of canoeing along the edge of the very deep and crystal clear lake my mother in law lives beside. Looking down just feet from the shore you can see the cliff face of the drop off under the water and all the levels of rock below the surface.

Pattern Notes
These mittens are worked from the bottom up in the round, 1/1 cables are worked during the Adventure Cables for an extra deep textured cable pattern. During decreases the front initially decreases stitches within the cable pattern, then switches to decreases absorbing the remaining cable pattern. These mittens benefit from a wet blocking to open the cable pattern up and set the size.
