You will need 200g of Majestic Aran in yellow for the main colour and 100g in any black DK for the hearts. The laces are made by continuously casting on with a crochet hook, then they are thread through the gaiters and tied in a bow at the top cuff.

The finished measurements are approximately 14 inches long x 15 inches wide at the calf.

Inspired by silent movie actor Rudolph Valentino (1895-1926). I just love his outfits and that whole ’20s era, in those cool black & white photos he’s a stylish & sophisticated dresser; someone described him as being “a symphony in grey” but one of his closest friends, fellow actor Nita Naldi, described him as having “terrible dress sense”! I think she meant the colours he wore? He turned up for a magazine interview in a green suit with grey stripes and was known to wear yellow gloves & yellow shoes, which was thought to be quite outrageous. I just love his socks in this photo and guessed that they would be yellow, then I found a programme which translates b&w photos into colour and, lo & behold, they’ve come out yellow!
