From the book: “… now a new look has come into being that rivals expensive hand-loomed fabrics in texture. First we crochet a simple, perfectly plain background, then we weave strands through it to form attractive patterns.“

Materials:

  • Coats & Clark’s O.N.T. “Speed-Cro-Sheen” Mercerized Cotton, Art. C.44: 20 balls of No. 122 Watermelon; and
  • J. & P. Coats Metallic “Knit-Cro-Sheen”, Art. A.64-M: 1 ball of No. M.1 White; and
  • Coats & Clark’s O.N.T. Cotton Rug Yarn, Art. C.204: 3 skeins of No. 12 Black
  • Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero)
  • Long weaving needle

Gauge: 10 treble make 2 inches; 3 ridges and 1 woven row make 1-3/4 inches.

Rug is crocheted in Speed-Cro-Sheen, then woven through with Metallic Knit-Cro-Sheen (held triple) and Cotton Rug Yarn (held double).
