I wrote this pattern as a celebration of the hand, that amazing appendage that lets us knit, type, make music, pen words, shift gears, stir cake batter, caress a loved one, tie shoelaces, and almost anything else you could imagine.

A leaflike emblem on the back of the mitt is complimented by twisted ribbing to form a simple but striking design. Worked in about 70-80 yards of worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used a wool/acrylic blend in the pair pictured) on double pointed needles, this is a fairly quick knit. One size fits the average hand; measures about 6” long.

Musicians’ gloves, fingerless mitts, texting gloves, whatever you want to call them, they’re wonderful for keeping your hands warm while leaving your fingers free to work. Makes a wonderful gift.

Count your blessings. If you’ve got hands, there’s two to put at the top of the list. There are so many things we can do with our hands: let’s make them good and useful things, not cruel and destructive ones. And for those of you who have learned to go through life without them - here’s to you. You make me ashamed that I don’t do more with the hands I have been blessed with.

With gratitude to the One who gave me my hands, and whose own hands bore the print of the nails for me.

This pattern is for personal use only.

I have revised the pattern to make mitt 2 a true mirror-image of mitt 1, an error I didn’t realize existed until fellow Raveler was147 pointed it out. Once again I am indebted to the Ravelry community! Thanks for putting up with my blunders and pointing out my mistakes.
