Life is a joyous adventure full of challenges, opportunities, friendships, love, learning, and the appreciation for the wonders of this world. Each runic symbol on this blanket represents key qualities or lessons that we either need to develop or draw upon as we venture forth.

The complete Elder Futhark alphabet is written here, the name and attributes of each is included in the pattern. The spirit of nature finds expression in the imagery of flowers, hearts, and butterflies that surround the runes, while the Celtic inspired cables and bobbles are a natural complement to the design.

Fully charted, the blanket is made in two stages:
First, the centre panel which features the full Elder Futhark Rune Script, Celtic inspired cables with bobbles, and butterfly lace, is knit back and forth using a circular needle.
Second, the little box lace border is made by picking up stitches from the perimeter of the blanket and working in the round, increasing in each corner. To successfully work the large number of stitches, either a very long cable needle or 3 separate cable needles can be used.

The blanket shown was made in colour no.889, Blood.
