This cowl, Ruth, named after my mom, is cast on and knit in the round.

The pattern includes directions for a sampler cowl which uses 4 different lace stitches and also directions for a cowl which uses only one of the lace stitches.

For the sampler cowl, with the 4 lace stitches, directions are given to place stitch markers, so that you know when you leave one lace stitch repeat and start another stitch repeat.

The sampler cowl is pictured in the gray yarn and the one stitch cowl is pictured in the pink yarn.

The cowl can be made from any type of yarn and still look good. The gray cowl was made from alpaca yarn and the pink cowl was made from cotton yarn.
