This beanie begins with the ear flaps knitted separately first, then the 2 pieces are incorporated into the bottom hat’s cast on before continuing to the top. The “fake bill” stitches are then picked up at the bottom front and are fastened to the hat after binding off. The crocheted edging adds the finishing touch.

Gauge notes:

  • US 13 to US 15 are the listed pattern needles. The instructions state that using either the 9.00 or 10.00 mm needles would be required in order to achieve gauge of 8 to 9 stitches for 10 cm for the resulting fabric.
  • The pattern states that only 1 skein of 33 yards is required. However 2 skeins would be a safe assumption in order not to run out of yarn.
