The Sally Lightfoot dances sideways, and so does this dramatically asymmetrical, long-tailed shawlette/capelet/scarf. Sally’s design begins at the tip of the long tail, grows wider, turns the corner, and segues into short rows for the semicircular capelet shaping.

Knit on the bias for stretch, Sally Lightfoot features an I-cord bind-off with five loops that let you style the garment your way. Pass the tail through the loops and let it dangle, or anchor the tail through a loop and toss it over your shoulder: either way, you have an original, eye-catching design.

Because of the color changes, this design is more suitable for intermediate knitters or advanced beginners than for beginning beginners. No purling required. Body is worked sideways in garter stitch with the occasional eyelet, while the border uses eyelets and a simple yo, k2tog faggoting for a lacy appearance.
