Saluda, North Carolina is a Blue Ridge Mountain town which derives its name from the Cherokee word, Tsaludiyi, meaning “Green Corn Place.” Replete with a general store, eclectic restaurants, and a vibrant local arts scene, Saluda also boasts the steepest mainline railroad grade track in the United States. The name Saluda seemed appropriate for this autumn-colored swoncho, with a cozy warmth that’s perfect for a hike in the mountains.

This comfy hybrid combination of sweater and poncho is worked from the neck down. Sleeve stitches are placed on scrap yarn and are worked after the body is finished. You can use dpns or magic loop for the sleeves and neckline. The bottom half of the garment is quite wide; 40” circulars work well for this portion.
