Sarai is a simple, crescent shaped shawl that features a beautiful combination of stockinette stitch, lace and texture. Instructions for use of fingering or DK weight yarns, repeatable charts and alternate border options are provided to easily modify the size of your shawl or change the combination and balance of the stitch patterns used. Sarai’s curved shape and large wingspan makes this shawl stylish, easy & versatile to wear.

Pattern includes:

  • Cover sheet detailing materials needed for DK and Fingering weight shawls, 3 pages of written row by row instruction & clear, easy-to-read charts, and 1 page containing only pictures
  • Instructions for three border options to change the look of your finished shawl (making Sarai a 3-in-1 pattern!)

Materials

DK weight version:
Unblocked gauge: 19 sts and 26.5 rows = 4”/10 cm in st st
Needles: US 8 (5 mm) 32”/81 cm or longer circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
Yarn: 2 skeins of any 225 yard (206 m) DK weight yarn

~DK Sample knit used approximately 400 yards (not shown)

Blocked measurements: 70”/178 cm across the top, 17”/ 43 cm down the center stitch

Fingering weight
Unblocked gauge: 22.5 sts & 33 rows = 4“/10 cm in st st
Needles: US 6 (4mm) 32”/81 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
Yarn: 1 skein of any 435+ yard (398+ m) fingering weight

~Yellow shawl, with main border, used Have You Any Wool Lustrous in ‘Clover Honey,’ approx. 415 yards (380 m)

~Red shawl, with lace border, used Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in ‘Sequoia,’ approx. 415 yards (380 m)

~Purple shawl, with purl ridge border used approx. 430 yards

Blocked measurements: 68”/173 cm across the top, 16”/41 cm down the center stitch
