Saraste is a character from a Finnish children’s book ”Mestaritontun seikkailut” (“Adventures of the Master Gnome”), which I used to read when I was a child. She was a princess who had been abducted by a troll king wanting to make her his bride. Saraste was kept as a prisoner inside a boulder and made to weave a wedding cloak from her own long, golden hair. When the cloak was ready, the wedding would take place. Fortunately there was a friendly gnome and of course, a handsome prince, and everything ended well…
This beautiful golden yarn reminds me of Saraste. Saraste means “the first rays of morning sun”, and the glowing colours of the wool dyed with madder indeed reflect that.

The design of this super light moebius lace shrug is part of a knitting kit, made in collaboration with Renaissance Dyeing. Together with other knit designs from 4 different designers world-wide, this shrug was presented during the London Knitnation 29-31 July 2010.

The size given is medium/large, the final shrug is about 55 cm wide and 33 cm high. There are instructions, how to make it smaller or bigger.
