Scraptastic Flower and Moss Scarf/Wrap

This pattern is available for free.

This is my first pattern -- if you have any questions about it, please let me know. I am “TinyRatSweaters” at Ravelry.

I had lots of DK/light worsted cotton yarn left over from other projects in insignificant amounts as well as two balls of Cascade elasticized yarn for socks (Fixation Spray Dyed Effects in Key Lime) that I didn’t need. I’d always wanted to make a scrap-yoyo kind of thing, so I just started making flowers and then decided what to make and how to join them when I saw how many I had. I made the flowers so that they could easily be joined so I left ch 2 spaces in the petals, and then experimented with ways to join them with the elasticized yarn.

I was pleased to see that the texture and color of the yarn made for raised areas between the flowers – it looked very mossy and had a nice texture to it that played off the the mercerized smoothness of most of the flowers. If you like the raised, mossy effect, then I highly recommend the Cascade yarn. But any yarn will be fine. The only warning I have is that there was such a differential between the weight of the joining yarn and the weight of the yarn in the flowers that there was a bit of pucker in some of the heavier flowers. Ergo, I wouldn’t use anything heavier than a DK 8 ply if you are opting for a fingering-weight yarn to frame and join them and be sure to use a hook that’s larger than the one you used to make the flowers. Have fun!
