The motif for this simple 1x1 ribbed hat came from a collection of antique needlepoint images (Russian? Latvian?) I found years ago, though I have no idea where they were from or why I held onto them. I have been slowly turning them into charts for knitting with some liberties taken to account for what would end up being extra-long floats.

NOTE: Be sure NOT to miss the last row of the chart which is one row of stockinette stitch in the main body color. If you jump right back into the ribbing after the contrast color row, it will buckle and not give the framed look of the contrast rows above and below the motif.

(For a simple 1x1 hat, simply follow the instructions, omitting the charted motif, and continuing until the desired length before reducing.)
