I absolutely love scarves, shawls and wraps. I am addicted and wear them very often during the winter.

I came up with this design while thinking of a gift to make for my husband’s grandmothers’ 80th birthday! she gets cold easily so i thought of a large and thick wrap.

I absolutely love using shell stitches and, well shells in general. I have a small collection of shells that i actually stare at when I need inspiration.
Then it just came to me, “why not make the whole wrap in shells?”

There a rows of shells that are periodically worked in the back loops only to create a very soft ripple effect in the wrap.

The border reminds me of little sand dollars. LOL! Can you tell that I love the beach.

I hope you love this wrap as much as I do. It wraps you in warmth and luxury every time you put it on.

The yarn I made this wrap in has now been discontinued so I listed a few substitutes that should work.

Since this wrap is made from the bottom up starting with one shell and increasing every row, the gauge really isn’t extremely important. you do want your stitches to be pretty close though so i wouldn’t use a larger hook as it may make the wrap too airy and too heavy using up more yarn. I have made this wrap into a shawl with worsted weight yarn and it did end up a bit heavy but would be perfect if you live in an area that gets really cold. It does not get that cold here in Socal!

For the full wrap I used up almost 20 ounces of sport weight yarn with a WPI of 13. The yarn substitutes are the closest that I could find that were not all baby yarn.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
