This little bonnet was designed to go with Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Baby Surprise Jacket, using the same gauge as that pattern. Worked in 4 sections, using either held or picked up stitches from the previous section(s), this project is completely seamless.

If you are not making this to go with the Baby Surprise Jacket, please note that working it at 20sts per 4” gives you the 6 – 12 month size, while 24sts per 4” gives you the newborn size. If you knit at a larger gauge, please see our separate, companion pattern for Aran or Bulky weight yarn.

Materials:

  • worsted or DK weight yarn, about 63 – 73 yards
  • size US 8 (5.00mm) needles, or size needed to make gauge – you will need 2 circulars and a set of DPNs. The extra circulars are just to hold sts, so can be any size, US 8 (5.00mm) or smaller

NOTE: you may find it easiest if you use 16” circulars and 10” DPNs.

Stitches & Techniques:
knit (K), purl (P), make 1 (M1), slip-slip-knit (ssk), and i-cord
