I designed these blankets for knitting with Rowan Cotton Glace, a 100% cotton yarn which I like to use for babies and children as it is non-itchy, has a large colour palette, is hard wearing and washes well. If you choose to use another yarn remember that your tension may be different and consequently the size of your blanket.

The patterns are written as colour charts and written instructions. There are 6 one shade squares each reflecting a seaside or nautical theme, and 6 “picture” squares. They are knitted in strips then sewn together vertically. They can be knitted as separate squares then sewn together but you will use more yarn and give yourself more work this way!

The instructions are for three sizes: small 45cm x 60cm (18in x 24in); medium 60cm x 75cm (24cm x 30in) and large 75cm x 75cm (30in x 30in). The yarn amounts are for the blankets and the shades as they appear in the photos, however 2 of the blue shades I used have since been discontinued. There are other blue shades available in this yarn. The small blanket will fit a buggy or moses basket, the medium and large can be used for a cot or folded and used from newborn to child. I usually back the small blanket with quilting, there are instructions for this in the pattern

Materials: Because I use a lot of colour in my designs you will only need very small amounts of some shades.

Small blanket: 4 x 50g 726 Bleached; 1 x 50g 730 Oyster; 1 x 50g 827 Chalk; small amounts of: 749 Sky; 741 Poppy; 817 Maritime; 727 Black; 814 Shoot; 834 Whey; 845 Shell. The completed blanket in this yarn weighs approx. 240g.

Medium blanket: 5 x 50g 726 Bleached ; 2 x 50g 749 Sky; 1 x 50g 817 Maritime; 1 x 50g 730 Oyster; small amounts of 741 Poppy; 727 Black; 814 Shoot; 834 Whey; 845 Shell. The completed blanket in this yarn weighs approx. 400g.

Large blanket: 5 x 50g 726 Bleached; 3 x 50g Maritime; 2 x 50g 749 Sky; 1 x 50g 730 Oyster; 1 x 50g 741 Poppy; 1 x 50g 834 Whey; small amounts of 814 Shoot; 727 Black; 845 Shell. The completed blanket in this yarn weighs approx 500g.
