Leaves with beaded stems growing out of ribbing into a reverse stockinette background — simple and decorative at the same time and reminds of the things made by the artists of the Viennese Secession movement (the Austrian Art Nouveau).

Secession Mitts match the Secession shawl and Secession Cowl.

The mitts are worked in the round starting at the bottom, using fingering weight yarn. The thumb gusset is formed using the Life Line method, which assures a very comfortable fit. Beads are only used on the top of the mitts. Beads are optional but highly recommended.

For information about sizes, measurements and yarn requirements please check the second page of the pattern located among the photos on the left.

The pattern is written for M size mitts. Instructions are given for working mittens in S, L and XL sizes by adjusting the yarn weight and gauge. For example, you could use Skein Sport for L size, Skein Voyage DK for XL. However, treat the yarn weight suggested flexibly. E.g. if you worked Secession shawl from light fingering and have some leftovers, but would like to make L size mittens, give it a try, it may be possible to achieve the gauge indicated for sport with light fingering as well.

I asked test knitters what they would like to tell about the pattern and the finished cowl to other knitters and here are some of their answers:

Pannouschka Elegant and comfy mitts, fun and quick knit.

Ftmhling So addictive, very fun and quick project. Warning! You wont be able to put down yr needles before bind off. lol

Vaida It’s a lovely fast knit, perfect accessory to your wardrobe — and a perfect gift. And definitely knit with beads — they add a nice touch to the pattern.

echeverialaui These mitts are a perfect fit and a must have, especially if you already knit the matching shawl — like I did — or the cowl.

sanita60 Pattern is written very clearly and easy to follow!
