Second Instar is a triangle-based cowl with minimalist stitch patterns (stockinette and a little bit of garter), designed to show off a good yarn in a unique but subtly different construction.

The written pattern, available as an instantly downloadable .PDF, is written to help you recreate the sample shown, and provides gauge and a starting point for needle size. But the pattern is written and designed to work with almost any reasonable yarn.

It is technically seamless, in that you never sew a seam for this project; also the appearance of seams is a major design element, so make what you will of that, I guess.

The Second Instar cowl knits up in a DK-weight yarn. The pattern gives full instructions for the sample shown, but this is a project that can be knit in almost any reasonable yarn; change needle sizes as appropriate.

The sample is shown in Malabrigo Rastita in Glitter.

Gauge is 18 sts and 35 rows over 4”10cm of blocked stockinette. Gauge is taken from the first section; on the second section, gauge is 20 sts and 35 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked stockinette. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Materials, for the sample shown:
220-240 Malabrigo Yarn Rastita, or similar DK-to-worsted-weight yarn
1 16-24” circular needle in US4-5/3.5.5-3.75mm, or size needed for primary gauge
