Funny how the unexpected can sneak up on you. Like falling in love with the WRONG person, or knitting a hat which turns out to be totally different from what you had planned.

This was originally intended as a man’s hat for charity, but (as frequently happens), the yarn had its way with me and it instead morphed into a girl’s toque.

Shown in the adult/teen size, but a simple change in stitch count will instead create a child or infant sized hat. So give it a try, it’s free, and knits up quicker than falling in love!

!!! NOTE !!!
Many people have commented that their hats came out smaller than mine. Please check your gauge and move up your needle size if needed so your gauge matches mine. I did a heavy-duty blocking on mine (steamed it, then wet it, then dried it with a round plate inside) for maximum softness and floppiness, and I specified what my gauge was after this blocking. If yours comes out too small despite all your plans and schemes, try a steamed blocking, but don’t “kill it” (unless you WANT to!).
