“She must be around sixty, but she still looks strong, and there’s no sign she’s turned to liquor or morphling or any form of chemical escape over the years.”

I’m a huge fan of the Hunger Games, both books and movies. I like to imagine what the characters in the books would wear, especially those who come from Districts where handcrafted clothing would be common or otherwise readily made from necessity. One of my favorite characters is Seeder, from District 11. I can easily imagine her having a snug, textured hat for going out into the fields and orchards during a chilly late autumn harvest.

Seeder is a thick, cozy hat which works up quickly. It uses a basic cabled stitch pattern for the body, which is integrated into the crown decreases to avoid an abrupt edge in the pattern. Multiples for the body pattern are included so you can make the hat any size you want, though the full instructions are only for the medium and large sizes.

The yellow hat in the pictures was made using 1.5 skeins of Cascade Yarns Lana Grande in the Maize colorway (number 6021).

The green multi-colored hat in the pictures was made using less than 1 skein of Madeline Tosh Home in the Filigree colorway.
