Back in October of last year, I published my first version of a Crochet Beanie in All Sizes. I have changed quite a bit from then to now, and so here is an updated version of my Newborn, 3-6 Month and 6-12 Month Sizes. These beanies are great to use as the basis of other hat types. Embellishment how you wish, change the length to make a cloche style or roll up brim or make it in a rainbow of colors.

I’ve included the Star Applique Pattern at the end of the pattern.

These are great hats to work up for donation to your local baby hospital :) Remember to use soft acrylic or cotton yarn that machine washes and dries well and weave your ends in really, really well!

Materials:

  • Less than 125 yards of Worsted Weight Yarn (per Hat) - I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Red, White and Royal Blue
  • I9/5.5mm Crochet Hook (for Hats)
  • G6/4.25mm Crochet Hook (for Star)
  • Tapestry Needle - an 18” or 20” will work well for this!

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Red Heart’s With Love. Due to allergies, I do not suggest wools for baby - soft acrylics and cotton only.

You may opt for a Light Worsted Weight Yarn (#3) if working a star for a newborn size hat as the star applique is a little large.

Time Spent:
I worked up the newborn size in just under 30 minutes, the 3-6 month size in just about 30 minutes and the 6-12 month size in just over 30 minutes.

Star can be ready to go in about 10 minutes.
