The mysterious selkies are both seal and human. To become human, they shed their seal skin. They turn back into seals by throwing their seal skin over themselves.

As humans they are incredibly beautiful, and many a fisherman has taken a selkie wife, and hidden her seal skin, to ensure that she will stay with him forever. The wife will do everything to find the skin, since selkies prefer being seals. Eventually she will find it, and return to her life in the sea.

Throw this traditional Shetland stole over your shoulders, and see if you turn into a seal too!

The pattern is charted and has 6 pages.

You will need between 1,300 and 1,900 metres (1,400 to 2,080 yards), mainly depending on how aggressively you block.

I had the most amazing test knitters for this - thank you all very much!
