Selva is a wide, moebius –style cowl with a leave-pattern lace edge knitted attached to the body of the cowl. It will hug your shoulders and curl two or three times around your neck while you are taking a long walk in the woods to collect some mushrooms or look for wolves. (1)

Yarn: You will need about 500 yards (medium) or 700 yards (large) of sport weight or dk yarn, sample shown in Loops Trapper 3.5, a lovely tweed yarn blending 70% merino with 30% yummy cashmere.

Gauge: The excact gauge is not essential but different gauges will of course result in differently sized cowls. The sample had a gauge of 14 sts, 28 r = 4‘‘ - after blocking – and resulted in a cowl 17 ins /43 cm deep and 70 ins / 177 cm in circumference. Some of my fabulous test-knitters had trouble getting gauge with sport weight yarn and have choosen to use dk yarn instead.

Needle: US8/5mm circular, 47 ins/120 cm long, or needle to get gauge. If you are an „average“ knitter the needle should be 1 mm larger than suggested for yarn to garant a nice drape. You might want to change to a needle one size smaler for the lace edge.

(1) It was commented, that amateurs should not collect mushrooms. I love collecting mushrooms and eating them, but I agree, that you need to be 100% sure that you have an eatable mushroom. So do not go eat unknown mushrooms, it might be the last thing you do!
Also: do not go looking for wolves, they might bite you!
