An aran weight boot sock with a bisected toe pattern reminiscent of semaphore flags. Wear them either way round or inside out (they are fully reversible as shown), make a mirrored pair or two left or right socks to extend your vocabulary!

Pattern and construction
Socks are made toe-up in the round. Instructions for the toe pattern are fully charted and written out. Heel is a round heel - a short row construction (does not require wraps etc) with a gusset.

Sizes:
The pattern contains negative ease (i.e. the sock you make will be approx. 10% smaller than your actual foot). Foot lengths are easily adjustable.

Finished foot circumferences:
XS/S: 15.75 cm/6.25in
M: 18.5cm/7.25in
L: 20.7cm/8.25in
XL: 23cm/9in

Needles:
4mm (US 6) needle or correct needle size to achieve gauge and a needle 1mm or 1-2 US sizes smaller for final ribbing (if desired). Pattern is written needle neutral and you may substitute your preferred method of small circumference knitting.
Gauge:
20 sts and 25 rows over 10cm/4in

Yarn and yardage:
Jamieson’s of Shetland Shetland Heather in Woodnymph (or any wool or suitable sock yarn in aran weight)

XS/S: 150yds/140m
M: 180yds/195m
L: 240yds/220yds
XL:275yds/255m
