A toe-up sock pattern with short row heel designed by Brigid Cherry.

These socks are designed to co-ordinate with the Starfleet uniforms worn by the crew of the USS Enterprise on the original Star Trek. The panelled rib patterning incorporates a textural arrowhead that recalls the shape of the Enterprise uniform insignia. Make these socks in science blue, engineering red or command gold – or any other uniform colour that takes your fancy.

Instructions are given for three sizes according to foot circumference - 19cm/7.5” (small), 22cm/8.5” (medium), or 24cm/9.5” (large). Length can be varied as required.

Any suitable sock yarn may be used. Solid colours are recommended. Toe, heel and cuff are knit in a contrasting colour (though the whole sock could be knitted in the same colour if preferred). The pattern was designed using Onion’s Nettle Sock Yarn using two 50g balls in 1020 Himmelbla for the main colour and one ball in 1002 Koks for the contrast colour. Alternatively, a 100g skein and a heel & toe mini skein (or a sock set) may be used.

Pattern contains both charts and written instructions for the textural pattern, made up of knits and purls. Pattern is also available in a low vision accessible format following the Ravelry requirements (22 and 24 pt san serif font, black text throughout, no italics, all written directions, charts not required but appended at the end of the document). This pattern has been test knit.
