Lovely soft alpaca is used for this garment. It is designed for hand-dyed or painted yarns, but it would look as well using undyed yarns, or those dyed a solid colour.
The size can be altered fairly easily to suit your requirements, as long as you make sure you have the correct numbers of stitches for the pattern repeats.
The cowl uses the Channel Island cast on method. It is worked bottom up, but the instructions could be read easily in reverse to work top down if you preferred the cast on edge to show more.
