The Shades of Grey Fair Isle Hat is another fun and quick project to knit.
It looks complicated, but the instructions are quite easy to follow, and it is a great introduction to 2 color knitting.
Fair isle pattern is charted, and simple to follow.
The color knitting ends before the top shaping begins - for easy knitting.
Pattern includes 5 sizes - Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.
Finished circumferences of 12”, 14”, 16”, 18”, and 20”;
will fit baby, child, teen, small adult and large adult.
Hat can be knit with any worsted weight yarn.
Recommended gauge is 5 stitches = 1”, in stockinette stitch, using larger needles.
I used Berroco Vintage Worsted Weight yarn for my samples.
Sample hats required approx. 100 - 150 yards of main color (MC) and 25 - 50 yards of contrast color (CC).
It’s a great way to use up small amounts of yarn!
Recommended needles:
size 6, 16” circular ( for ribbing ),
size 8, 16” circular ( for body of hat ),
size 8 double pointed needles ( for top of hat ).
Other tools required include stitch markers and tapestry needle.
