This is my new favorite garment – easy to wear, all-season, flattering and fun to knit!

The all-over cable pattern adds textural (and knitting) interest, but because the cables are worked on a stockinette background, and not set off by purl columns, it is subtle and becoming.

Other yarn suggestions:

Any sport weight yarn that drapes well would make a lovely Shadow Poncho. A wool blend containing silk, rayon, bamboo or linen would be ideal.

To date, this pattern has only been worked in Anzula Vera, but I have swatched for it in Manos Silk Blend and I think it would work beautifully.

For using the Silk Blend, I recommend a US #6 needle and casting on 100 stitches. Approximately 8 skeins are required.

I believe this pattern could produce a lovely poncho in a chunkier yarn as well. Just be sure to swatch to determine what needle will produce a nice, drapey fabric, and adjust your cast-on accordingly.
