This is a baby hat knitted in the round. You will need about 100-150 yards of two colors, a light and a dark. It is a very simple shadow knitting pattern and knits up quickly.

You can substitute any worsted weight yarn that is appropriate for a baby’s delicate skin. I used Cotton Ease because it was around. Bulky weight yarn could make a child’s hat, but I haven’t tried it.

Gauge is not critical. Babies grow fast, and if the hat is bigger or smaller it will fit some baby sometime.

Please feel free to use this pattern for charity knitting, but please do not use this pattern to make hats to sell.
