Pattern update - July 2012 - to add instructions for wall-hangings.

We have recently been looking at colour effects in geometric illusion knits and realised that the cushion pattern (described below) lends itself very nicely to being a pair of art works to hang on the wall. Cushions rarely stay next to each other for the differences to be noticeable. The effect is much more surprising when the pieces are hanging on the wall. Look at them from the side and they look exactly alike. As you move around they change into two different designs - one with squares and one with stripes.

The pattern now includes instructions for the cushions and hangings.

’Illusion Knitting’ and ‘Shadow Knitting’ seem to be interchangeable terms. It is difficult to know the difference or where to draw a line between them.

This pattern is definitely on the shadow side.

The first photograph shows what appear to be two identical cushions. The second photo shows the same cushions from a different angle and they are obviously different.

It is easy to see the difference where strong colours are used but not quite so easy when the colours are more subtle.

The pattern has instructions for both cushions and also includes information about using the same methods to make an afghan.

Warning: these cushions are more difficult to make than our seemingly complex illusion pictures. You must be used to handling several balls of yarn in the same way that you would work intarsia.
