This versatile shawl collar lace jacket is knit on larger needles so the lace is open and light, and it works up quickly. It is a great transeasonal cover-up, wrap, yoga cardy or vest.
The project is suitable for a beginner lace knitter, as there is absolutely no shaping! The front edge naturally forms a nice scallop. The jacket utilises the drape of the lace fabric and a unique construction method for its shaping.

The jacket is worked in rectangular pieces, blocked to measurements, then seamed with straight backstitch seams - no picking up stitches.

You will need to know how to cast on and off, seam using backstitch, and work simple lace sts - yo, K2tog, slipped stitches and psso.

Louisa Harding’s ‘Ondine’ is a beautifully soft cotton with good yardage, and the colour has real depth. The pattern uses 9 balls. Many DK yarns could be substituted for different effects. I recommend cotton, bamboo or silk blends to give a lovely drape.

The lace pattern is in written form, and there are plenty of pictures to help with the final assembly.

The sizing is one size with plenty of positive ease, and will suit anywhere from a 30-36” bust, around size 10 to 14 Australian. Bust size of model in pictures is 33”.

Update 16/10/13 re-sizing:
I have had a few requests regarding whether this can be upsized. I will eventually add further sizes, but in the meantime yes, it is possible to upsize (or downsize) fairly simply by adding repeats to the lace panels in width and in length. Then you would adjust the length of the back seam and shawl collar accordingly. Feel free to message me for any help.
